When was your last time you have a dialogue with your teen children? Most of the time as parent it's our responsibility to guide our children to the right path.
Have you noticed any unusual things or action with them, like change of behavior, especially pertaining their school attendance? Any swing of emotion for no reason at all. and the type of friends they hang at present.
Do they change their types of clothing, or sometimes they used the same clothes everyday without regular bathing.
They asked you more money for these and that.
Even their sleep pattern change, whether they've sleep or not.
Why don't you check your medicine cabinet, if the cough syrup that you bought some days ago is still there? You usually buy cough medicine in the pharmacy when somebody got colds or has simple cough.
Have you heard about cough suppressant being used just like cocaine, heroin, marijuana or PCP? We all know these are dangerous drugs that your children might get involved. More and more now are taking drug that is more available or they have easy access to get in especially this cough suppressant which is a common ingredient to control cough like.
It is also presence on all other brands of cough syrup, cold, and flu. If you take the regular dosage you have no problem but if you take the whole bottle and gulp it, it will cause hallucination and dissociative effects similar to PCP, especially when you drink alcohol afterward.
This kind of drug abuse is not new to them; it's a problem nationwide now.
It's about time that we get involved with our children.
Don't take them for granted.
We, as the parents should take the initiative to check our teens.
First, ask their teachers and friends if they are all right in class or as a friend and tell them to give you feedback if they notice unusual changes of behaviors.
Some family dialogue is very effective to open this kind of subject, even once a week; you will learn many things that you yourself are not aware of.
If you're a working mom, do it after dinner or any time that you are available, the sooner is the better.
Being a parent myself, I am aware that our responsibilities to our children are a never-ending process. Our duty is to guide them properly until they are old enough to become a responsible person.
Who else do you think could do that, not somebody outside the family but we, the parent, especially the mother?
